The Art in You and Me: The Enneagram Visualized

No matter our stories, we were all created with an inherent desire to be seen, known, and fully loved.

With symbolism, visual storytelling, and creative renderings of each type’s view of the world, my heart is to celebrate and value all of the Enneagram types.

May your heart chords be strummed as you begin to see both yourself and others through a lens of compassion.

May you be captivated by the people God has placed in your life.

Book Review

“Hailey Whitman’s (Jorris’) book, The Art in You and Me: The Enneagram Visualized, combines beautifully crafted images with thoughtfully chosen words to concisely and creatively convey the fundamental aspects of the nine Enneagram types. Both a celebration of each type’s path and a careful poetic rendering of these nine facets of the human ego, Hailey makes a rich and meaningful contribution to the current explosion of artistic communication about this ancient growth map that marks the welcome and enthusiastic discovery of it by the young people of her generation.”

- Beatrice Chestnut (Author of “The Complete Enneagram” and “The 9 Types of Leadership”)

Hidden Symbolism

This art was created with a variety of images and textures of which some are hidden. The bold italicized words in each type description are clues as to those images and their meanings, which otherwise might be easily missed. There is an image of a person in each piece. The art illustrates how each Enneagram type sees the world and how others may perceive them.

Type Three

Up on the highest mountain, Threes accomplish the seemingly unachievable. Threes see life as a competition, with every accomplishment receiving a gold, silver, or bronze, like the three peaks. As Threes reach for the stars, they add value to everything they touch or put their minds to.

Being at the top can be lonely, thus Threes prefer to ignore difficult feelings, knowing these feelings may distract them from important tasks at hand. Goal-oriented, Threes make wearing many hats appear effortless. They are extremely capable and are life’s true multi-taskers.

Driven and pioneering, like a winding river, Threes overcome obstacles and are models of persistence. Driven by the risk of being haunted by failure, Threes find a way to succeed.

Socially aware, charming, and desiring admiration, Threes become chameleons, situationally altering their image. Because they’ve lived on stage for so long, Threes may have trouble discerning who they truly are, a silhouette forever backlit by the moon.

Like a peacock, Threes become authentic when they show their true colors. Healthy Threes realize they carry inherent value just as they are, all awards aside. Finding their place for rest, Threes are able to re-encounter who they really are. In expressing genuineness of heart and being others-oriented, Threes become the kind of leader everyone wants to follow.
